Happy 5th Birthday to Us! And to a Few Famous Friends - Russell and Atwell

Happy 5th Birthday to Us! And to a Few Famous Friends

We're turning five today! That's five glorious years of silky-smooth, fresh, delicious chocolate. Five years of indulgence that actually tastes fresh because it is. And five years of proving that not all chocolate belongs in a dusty cupboard. So how do we celebrate? With birthday chocolate, of course, the creamy, chilled kind that makes every moment feel special. And we're not alone in celebrating today…

Our Birthday Buddies: Born on 1st October

Turns out, 1st October is a rather star-studded date.

Julie Andrews (1935): The legendary Mary Poppins herself. A national treasure, a queen of musicals, and the woman who taught us all that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. But let’s be honest, we think a spoonful of our Creamy Milk would go down even better. Smooth, comforting, and practically perfect in every way. If anyone deserves a moment of pure indulgence on her birthday, it’s Julie. And we like to think she’d keep her chocolates neatly lined up in the fridge with just the right amount of whimsy.

Brie Larson (1989): Captain Marvel, Oscar winner, and certified superhero. The kind of woman who could probably open a bag of birthday chocolate using sheer willpower. We're fairly sure she'd guard her stash with the same determination she used to save the universe, because sharing fresh chocolate is a battle most of us lose. If there's anyone we'd trust to keep the peace at a chocolate-fuelled birthday party, it's Brie, strong, fearless, and definitely a fridge-first kind of hero.

Theresa May (1956): Former Prime Minister, famous for her no-nonsense attitude and unexpectedly fabulous collection of shoes. We're confident she’d approve of a quiet moment with a strong cup of tea and a few dirty blondes. Possibly enjoyed in the calm after a busy day of negotiations or dance floor appearances. Whether you're running the country or running late, birthday chocolate makes everything better.

On This Day in History

October 1st has always been a day for bold beginnings.

1961: Walt Disney World opened.
The gates to the Happiest Place on Earth swung open, bringing a sprinkle of fairy dust and a lifetime’s supply of Mickey-shaped snacks. It's where dreams come true, parades never end, and grown adults are entirely justified in wearing mouse ears. But here’s the thing, magic isn’t just found in castles and fireworks. Sometimes it’s in a chilled bag of birthday chocolate waiting in your fridge. No queues, no ticket prices, no crying toddlers. Just pure, creamy joy whenever you fancy it. If Walt Disney taught us anything, it's that happiness often comes in small, perfectly formed packages. We’re inclined to agree, ours just happen to be filled with chocolate.

2020: Russell & Atwell began our mission to make fresher, creamier, more joyful chocolate. Five years later, we're still at it, just with a few more flavours, fans, and fridges.

How to Celebrate Properly

If you're going to celebrate, do it right, with birthday chocolate. Here’s how we’ll be marking the day (and you should too):

  • Straight from the fridge: cool, creamy, and dangerously moreish

  • At your desk: call it morale boosting

  • With friends, or secretly, in bed

  • With fizz or tea: both go brilliantly with chilled chocolate
